The Allentown School District Offers a full-time learning program, called the Virtual Campus, for students and families who prefer to learn online. Families interested in the Virtual Campus are required to fill out the Virtual Campus Enrollment Form located on the Virtual Campus web page. Requirements and expectations for the Virtual Campus are listed below.

• Virtual Campus courses run for an entire semester (two marking periods). Students receive a Report Card at the end of each semester.
• Students interested in the Virtual Campus are asked to commit to at least one (1) semester. Students wishing to leave the Virtual Campus prior to completing a semester and return to their home school must communicate their wishes to the Director of Virtual Education and Opportunity Programs in advance.
• Students must continue to attend their home school while waiting for their application to the Virtual Campus to be processed. During this waiting period, all applicants must comply with all school rules, policies and procedures per the Allentown School District Student and Family Handbook.
• Applications for the Virtual Campus are reviewed by the Director of Virtual Education and Opportunity Programs. Approval to enter the Virtual Campus is based on prior and current academic performance, attendance and the educational goals of the applicant.
• Students are required to log in to their Virtual Campus program for at least 180 minutes (3 hours) each day in order to receive attendance credit for the day. Students needing to be absent for a particular school day must notify their teacher and email an excuse note within three (3) days of their absence.
• Students accepted into the Virtual Campus will have their progress monitored and will be evaluated according to daily login time and academic performance. Students are expected to work approximately sixty (60) minutes (1 hour) on each course each school day during a 24-hour period to stay on track with required coursework.
• To qualify for the Virtual Campus, students will need to have all health vaccinations required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Parents and guardians should speak with the nurse at the home school of their child to check on vaccination status.
• Students will follow the Allentown School District calendar, including the scheduling of standardized assessments which will be taken at the home school.
• Students identified as chronically absent with more than eighteen (18) days of absence during the school term may be admitted on a trial basis to the Virtual Campus.
• Students in the Virtual Campus are encouraged to participate in athletics, extra-curricular activities, field trips, performing arts, and clubs offered at the home school.
• Students with an Individualized Education Program will have their program requirements reviewed by the Special Education Department to determine their eligibility for the Virtual Campus.
• English language learners will have their program requirements reviewed by the English Learner Services to determine their eligibility for the Virtual Campus.
• Students must take care of the equipment they receive from the Allentown School District. If equipment is lost or damaged, the student/family will be responsible for the repair or replacement of the equipment. Please call the Virtual Campus at (484) 765-4156 for any issues involving equipment.
• Virtual Campus students who do not have Wi-Fi may contact the Virtual Campus at (484) 765-4156 to request a hotspot.
• Virtual Campus students are expected to comply with all school rules, policies, and procedures per the Allentown School District Student and Family Handbook.

Innovative Educational Path

The Virtual Campus program provides a safe and exciting educational opportunity for students who desire an alternative mode of learning not available at home schools. High school students can partake in dual enrollment with Lehigh Carbon Community College or attend half-day Lehigh Career & Technical Institute while enrolled in the District’s Virtual Campus.

The Virtual Campus offers cutting-edge platforms like Imagine Learning Edgenuity and Pearson Connexus that facilitate individualized attention from teachers in order to provide a well-rounded educational experience for students. Gifted students have the opportunity to accelerate their learning while English language learners and students with an Individualized Education Program are provided with supports required to achieve success.

Flexible Learning Schedules

Students are afforded the opportunity to complete their educational programs at any time during the day. This flexibility allows families to care for their children while completing their public education and accommodates the schedules of students who need to work or who wish to participate in athletics, extracurricular activities, field trips, performing arts, and clubs offered through their home schools and professional organizations.

Skilled and Experienced Teachers

The Virtual Campus offers highly-qualified teachers certified and licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students have the opportunity to email, text, call and utilize live Zoom sessions with their teachers when extra assistance is needed.

Technology and Materials

Students in the Virtual Campus are provided with laptop computers, hotspots, and elementary workbooks at no cost to help ensure a successful and fulfilling learning experience.

Prestigious Diploma

Students graduating from the District’s Virtual Campus receive the same Allentown School District diploma and attend graduation alongside their lifelong friends and classmates. An Allentown School District diploma is held in high regard when it comes to acceptance into colleges and universities, all branches of the military, professional training programs, and the workforce.
