Allen student-athletes visit Lehigh Parkway

Throughout this year, Lehigh Parkway has celebrated with the William Allen Canary for Life Team led by Karen Comegys every month. Friday, February 3, was an extra special partnership day between William Allen High School and Lehigh Parkway. The Parkway and William Allen students participated in a “Red Out” for National Wear Red Day. This yearly event, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is intended to raise awareness about heart disease.

The day was filled with fun events. The William Allen Athletic Council, led by Jarrad Max and his wife Laura, implemented yoga lessons with all students in the gym. Representatives of the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams visited each classroom. The Allen students provided inspiring and uplifting messages to their younger peers. They spoke to the importance of studying, homework, reading and following your dreams. They interacted with our students, answered questions and posed for pictures. They even had a few dance offs!!

The Parkway students consider these high school students to be celebrities and heroes. Many of the Parkway students asked and received autographs from these amazing student-athletes. William Allen basketball team members briefly visited the day before to participate in the Lehigh Parkway PAL Basketball Team’s Meet the Players Assembly. Coach Doug Snyder and Coach Dave Peters, a 5th Grade teacher at Parkway, reminded our students what it meant to be a “student-athlete” and fielded questions from parents. Lehigh Parkway wishes both basketball teams success and good fortune as the postseason approaches.
